Description

Here is a fine example of a truly elegant and unique Grade II listed family home nestled in a generous, peaceful plot right in the heart of this small, bustling town. With all the fantastic amenities right on the doorstep and very easy access to Dartmoor National Park and major road and rail networks, this really is the perfect home for any family looking to live in amongst the buzz but have the countryside a stone’s throw away.

Believed to date back to the 1600s, the property has been beautifully cared for by the current owners who have had ownership for the past 20 years. During this time, the property has been greatly improved but managing to keep its original charm and character with the array of feature fireplaces, large sash windows and shutters, and many built in cubby-holes. The owners are not moving far and would very much like to hand over ownership to someone who will fully appreciate their home, with its superb central location and beautiful gardens, who will lovingly care for it, just as they have over the years.

As you approach through the stone pillared entrance and onto the sweeping driveway, you will soon appreciate the grandeur of this three storey home with its four, large bay windows and attractive central entrance vestibule. Positioned within a sizeable plot of approximately half an acre, with original high stone walling surrounding the grounds, it is amazing how peaceful and secluded it feels considering its proximity to the town centre. The organic garden is a haven for wildlife and provides a magical place for the green fingered and the area really comes into its own in spring and summer. You will find level lawns for children to play on, climbing roses adorning the old stone walls, flowerbeds full of blooms, an orchard and two vegetable patches to supply the kitchen. There is plenty of driveway parking with a garage to the side of the property.

Once you step inside the entrance hall, you are greeted with an array of reception rooms, including a formal drawing room with a central wood burner, and separate family room with its eye-catching marble fireplace, both rooms with large bay windows overlooking the front lawn. There is a welcoming kitchen with its classic blue Aga, bespoke Ash fitted kitchen with granite worktops, centre Island and vaulted ceiling with space for a dining table so you can sit in the sunshine and appreciate the view of the front garden through the French doors and demilune window. Leading from the kitchen is the formal dining room which has space for an extensive dining table and chairs where the view of the rear garden can be enjoyed through a set of French doors. From here you can access the laundry room, walk-in pantry, and cloakroom, all of which finish the ground floor off perfectly.

The beautiful spindle turning staircase takes you up onto the first floor landing, which leads you into four generous sized bedrooms. The main bedroom is extensive with its stunning bay window, decorative original marble fireplace and en suite bathroom. Bedroom two also boasts a beautiful bay window. There are two further bedrooms that enjoy outlooks over the front and rear, and a family bathroom to complete this level.

A further staircase takes you up onto the second floor landing, which again is sizeable and leads you into the last three bedrooms and a bathroom. The current owners use the second floor layout as one large living room, guest bedroom, home office and bathroom. In the past this whole floor has been used for a self-sufficient teenager.
