Like many in the industry, we watched Monday night’s BBC Panorama programme with concern — but not surprise. It exposed practices by some of the biggest national estate agency groups that mislead clients and undermine trust:
Conditional selling — pressuring buyers and sellers to use “associated services” (like mortgages or conveyancers) in order to progress a deal.
Overvaluing properties to win instructions, only to recommend price reductions later.
Incentivising staff based on referrals and price drops, rather than client success.
